Bird Park Outing with Lucky Date: January 28, 2018 Location: Bird Park (Cedar & 28th St), North Park, San Diego, CA Took a walk over to the local park today with my African Grey, Lucky. Despite the name, "Bird Park" isn't an aviary or a spot specifically for birds like a dog park is for dogs; it's just a standard public green space along the edge of Balboa Park. Highlights of the visit: Tree Time: Found a good spot near Pershing Drive to get Lucky out of her carrier and onto some branches. She spent some time climbing and exploring the natural bark. Safety Watch: Kept a constant eye on the sky for hawks, as they are common in this part of North Park. Photography: Managed to get several clear shots of her in the foliage. It’s a great neighborhood spot for some fresh air and mental stimulation, even if the "Bird Park" name is a bit of a misnomer for the area. Just a nice, quiet afternoon out with my bestie.   I was a patron, a resident DJ, a bartender, and spent much of my gleam at a dive bar, and discothèque called Divas (DivasSF.com), the legendary establishment formerly known as "The Motherlode" that plays host to a kaleidoscope of characters, each with their own colorful story to tell. The atmosphere within those walls was a peculiar mix of beauty and sleaze, a refuge from discrimination and a synthetic toxic chemical pit all at once. It was a place where love, life, drama, possibilities, sketch, and loss intertwined seamlessly, creating a mosaic of experiences that I still and will continue to cherish and choke on for all my days to come. As a resident DJ, I was the maestro spinning the vinyl rhythm of the night, blending beats that resonated with the eclectic crowd. The dance floor became a vibrating sketch, painted with the vibrant hues of diverse souls seeking love, a hookup, or to escape from the harsh realities of life — this was the Tenderloin — This was DivasSF.
