What started in October as a minor vanity repair quickly turned into a full-blown demolition and remodel. In a bathroom, everything is connected; disturbing one old fixture uncovered a domino effect of hidden needs behind the walls and under the floor.
Ultimately, the project expanded far beyond the original plan:
The Structure: Pulling up the old layers of tile(S), leveling the floor, doing extensive drywall repairs (patching up the existing walls rather than all-new sheets), updating insulation, and repairing the vent.
The Peace of Mind: Doing a thorough mold check once the walls were open; thankfully, none was found.
The Upgrades: New porcelain floor tiles, water valves, hoses, faucets, textured and painted walls, floorboards, lighting, and cabinets.
The Centerpiece: Showcasing a beautiful antique vanity and mirror.
It required lots of YouTube tutorials, countless supply runs to Home Depot and Lowe's, a brand-new set of power tools (thanks to Mom and Dave!), other specialty tools, and plenty of strict supervision from Lucky.
It made for a very dusty, incredibly messy holiday season living in a home with no functioning bathroom. However, the project was officially completed in February 2026. Absolutely love the final result now, and it laid the perfect foundation for the next phase: putting in a new shower in 2027.
Pictures not in order; I am over fixing stuff for the rest of the year!!!
